I have been chasing a pinging issue for awhile now and need some help figuring it out.
while driving if try to speed up and ease into the throttle it Pings like crazy, If I give it 3/4 throttle or more it is fine (no pinging) Also it is a lot worse when I am running the A/C. I have pulled codes and get 11 showing all is good, I have set my timing to 10 deg, done cap, rotor, and plugs, ran a can of seafoam through the booster line, and checked for vac leaks. What else should I check??
It runs great other than the pinging, has good power and I am getting 12 mpg on average. I Have been chasing this for a month now and I'm stumped, I am using the same grade fuel ( 88 octane ) and always get my fuel from the same station.
Truck is a 88 F250 4x4 with a 460 and a 5 speed.
Subscribed. My 92 does the same thing. Mainly with ac on and either moderate acceleration of climbing steep hills. I've done everything you could regarding tune and setting timing.

Check your EGR valve, is it opening? The cheap way of checking is to put a short piece of vacuum hose on its port and literally suck on it with your mouth, with the truck running it should considerably affect how it runs and possibly stall with vacuum applied if working correctly.
I had same problem, but it would also quit when I ran 91 or 93 octane. Finally decided to replace the FPR with an adjustable one and so far I can run above 12 and up to 16° advance on timing. Before, if I set it at 10° it would still ping and once I replaced my FPR, even a stock unit, mine finally quit pinging and also cured my often Hard starting when engine was warm.
My 351W was doing the same at 13 degrees timing....I had to bump it back down to 10 degrees with 91 octane fuel. That's good to know thanks Timbersteel, "Ill have to give that a try."
