Synchronizer question
Could this be a synchronizer problem? I've heard that word tossed around a few times, but not all that sure really what they do. I have a hunch they allow a spinning gear to mesh with a stationary gear by bringing the stationary one up to the same speed as the other. I'm not sure though if they come into play much if the vehicle is at a standstill while the clutch is depressed.
What complicates the issue somewhat is that the clutch pedal doesnt feel all that right to me. Effort required to depress the clutch feels excessive and there isn't a continuity in its travel (doesnt feel "springy" if that nakes any sense). I have a hunch things are not well with the pressure plate and perhaps the springs in it are messed up.
Thanks for any help.
But it could also be a problem at the lever where the master cylinder pushrod attaches to the pedal - the small plastic bushing there is also famous for wearing out, causing strange clutch behavior.
Then again, the M5OD isn't known as the most reliable transmission, and it's sensitive to contaminated oil (Dexron/Mercon) - have you ever drained & filled it? Have you even checked the level?
They're also known to have shifter problems - the shift stalk (under the rubber boot) may be bent or damaged.
What is interesting to me is why this problem presents itself when things are warmed up rather than when cold. I would think a master-slave, bent stick, etc. problems would present themselves all the time, not just in my situation.
