I've decided to fix up our 1992 F-150 with 5 speed and 4.9L. We bought the truck new in 1992 and have enjoyed 23 years or relatively trouble free miles. Only problem has been the clutch slave cylinder. Replacement was easy, but with the 5 speed you need to drop the transmission and transfer case since the slave cylinder is in the bell housing.
It's pretty much stock except for headlight relays to take the load off the headlight switch and the addition of some ham radio equipment.
After a 500 mile trip with my wife and our dog, a few weeks ago, I've decided that AC is a necessity. The original AC developed a leak and we've driven it without AC for the past few years. My plan is to replace the compressor, lines and drier with R134a parts. I also plan to upgrade the alternator with one of the later designs with 110 -130 amp output and better connectors. The generation 1 design wasn't that good.
Out of curiosity, has anyone in the group done either of these mods?
