With my tail between my legs I come before you to say you are all correct and I'm wrong. A 1999 tail gate will not fit a 1997. I talked with the man in GA today and asked for the run down. He does know his Fords. 1987 to 1997 will fit the 97 F250. If I absorbed the right info this time. So I'm still looking for a 97 gate too. He took my name and # and said he'd call if he found one.
No need. I found one in GA after all! The guy I told everyone to call, came up with one! It's supposed to a real nice gate. I''l let you know how it looks with some photos. I get it Monday. Stay tuned!
I picked up the tailgate! I'm very pleased!!! Not a dent, no rust at all! It still has an excellent paint job, I still will need to paint it to match the color of my truck though. With it came 2 new cables and inner gate liner and top lip protector $350.00. I thought it was a very fair price for the quality of the part with the extras.
My gate I'm taking off the truck is available, rust free and in good shape. Not perfect.
Nice no dents, rust or even scratches in the paint!!!
