ok i have a problem. for all the years that ive owned my truck ive though that it had a 302 in it, well carfax had this thing that you can find out your trucks history (go to the general forum i posted the url there). i did it and it said my truck has a 351 in it. so how can i tell what engin is in my truck, a sure fire way of knowing. thanks.
look at the sticker under the hood 5.0 is the 302 and 5.8 is the 351.. your truck is injected right look at the top of the upper intake (where your throttle body is) it will say 5.0 or 5.8.......
i got some back ground info, when it was gettin rebuilt the kit came with a 302 block and 351 parts. thats all i really know, im not sure which block is in it now. its carburated.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Feb-02 AT 11:01 PM (EST)]ty for the btw info.. from what i understand nothing on the truck is going to tell him what engine it has from my understanding the engine has gone threw some organ transplants the best bet from where i am sitting is go from firing order and see what it is.. correct me if i am off base.......
the firing order for the ......
302 94 and newer 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
351 95 and newer ( cannot find anything pre-95 in my haynes) not sure if it is the same as the 302 then?? any one
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
351 inside is right, they did come carbureted. The 302’s in 87 were all fuel injected.
The engine id/vin for the 302 is N
And for the 351 it’s H
302 firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
351 firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Hope this clarifies something.
only mass air 302's have the 351 firing order. The old speed density 302s and 460's have the same order. The 302 was fuel injected starting in 1985. The 351 and 460 were fuel injected starting in 1988.
BTW, Orange Peel, the original carb on the 5.8L HO was a Holley 4180 with a 17" carb lid. Find out what carb you have and you can tell whether you have the 351 or not.
THANK YOU!
i havent had time to look at the firing order yet, im doin my homework at the moment, once i look at that ill tell yall what i find. and where do i look on the carb to see what kind it is, i know that new carbs from holley and edlebrock have there signature on the carb big but i havent seen anything like that on it. thanks again for all the help and ill tell yall what i find out.
well, the firing order was the 302 order. but i didnt have time to look at the carb. ill get to that tomorrow. but it does kinda strike me odd as why its carburated. my dad said that he would take me to the guy that rebuilt it, so i will find out the story behind my engine soon. thanks
