Thanks to all who have helped me with my questions on the Beast so far. He is almost ready to go wheelin'....
The guy who owned this truck before me replaced the original xfer case shift **** with a dumb looking aftermarket part, and no shift pattern is written anywhere. It is 1 up, N, 2 down. So I am guessing 4-lo is up, and 2-hi and 4-hi are down. Is this right? I believe it to be an NP205 if that helps.
Anybody know where I can get a 1979 owners manual? Neither *** or JBG have one.
Thanks

I believe the NP205 shift pattern, top to bottom, should 4HI, 2HI, N, 4LO. IIRC, the 203 is the same way. You can verify a 205 very easily by looking at the back of the tcase. First of all, it must be a cast iron case. Between the rear output shaft and the front output cover (IOW, the middle of the case), there will be a small cover with 3 bolts in it. If you have a cast iron case without this small cover, it's an NP203. There should also be a tag riveted to the front of the case that tells what model the case is. It may be difficult to see this tag, though. If you have an aluminum case for some strange reason, there will be a round tag riveted to the back of the case below the filler plug that tells what model it is (on New Process 'cases. BW may be different.)
nope he was right 4low-N-2hi-4hi
np205
it has a tag rivited to the case
and jeff's has shifters in their catalog
or they have "a few" broncos / old fords around the place
