Does anyone have any tips on getting the fuel filter off?I can get the front line to let go but the rear line will not release.I have the little plastic tool that goes over the nipple on the filter but could not get it to work on the rear of the filter.THIS WAS NOT ONE OF FORD'S BETTER IDEA'S. THX
I really hate this design too, If there is any mud or crud in there it will make it alot worse. It just takes some elbow grease. I ended up bending the little clips inside the fuel line. I went to a Ford dealer and purchased new ones for 1.49 a piece.
I took the little clips completely off.Even shot carb.cleaner WD40 and PB on the line thinging it may be clodded. The little tool I used was even up against the fuel line and still won't release.
I've had much better luck using the metal scissor-type tools than the plastic ring-types. The real trick IMO is to push the fitting together and hold it that way while you insert the tool. This relieves the stress from the "fingers" and allows them to move out of the way. If the fitting is pulled, the fingers can be bent by the tool, causing them to permanently lock the fitting. On the one I did that to, I had to use a hook probe to dig out the ring of fingers before I could separate the fittings, and then straighten them out to reinstall them. Since then, I'm MUCH more careful.
Dodge was smart because on their filters the metal tool is already on there. If you beat the living daylights out of the connection it'll be hard to get off. Lube isn't gonna do much good. It took 3 of the crappy plastic rings to get mine off. The important thing is to push it strait in and not bend the filters connection peice.
