I didn't tear mine apart to check the clutches and steels inside, but it was shifting just fine up until the day the TC went out and killed it. I feel strongly (after reading a lot about trannies and the experience of others) that if I would have changed that TC a couple of months ago, or even last year, my tranny would still be going strong right now. It is one of those things that can only be realized with hindsight though, unless you are very proactive and have some extra $$$ laying around...
I'll be replacing it this Spring along with either a transgo tugger HD2 or JWVB.

Yeah, torque converter could be replaced by a monkey trained to listen for three "thunks" while turning and pushing in on an object Way too easy to do if you still have a weak stock converter in there. When mine was properly seated (and after I got three "thunks"), it was about 1/8" away from touching the fly wheel with the bell housing tightened down. Putting the new nuts on "sucked it up" to the fly wheel and closed that little gap.

i knew it had to be somthing other then weather! around here its weather & money that decides it. i use the weather as an excuse to be lazy, when i was living down in arizona, it was 24/7 working on stuff, but i really do enjoy it. sometimes i need to drink a beer as a motivator now a days.
