If you do offroading and you don't have a splash guard under the engine and the space where the fan sits, a rock much have hit the fan at some point and made a crack or something like that, weakening the blade. After that, it was just a ticking time bomb before the blade(s) finally gave up and went flying..

Yea i have the factory skid plate installed. Its been over a year though since I've done any major off-roading. i have wanted to install a larger skid plate made of thicker steel as the one i have now has a nice size dent in it.
Would installing a metal fan such as the the one from autozone in the link below cause any issues? I also included the link for the electric fan i want to install
If it was my rig, I'd go for the electric fans. The Flex-a-lite are very pricey though, you can get much cheaper fans than that. Might even be possible to buy an electric fan assembly from a 2010+ Expedition and adapt it to fit on your radiator, the size is not too different. Here's a variable speed fan controller if you go electric:

I wouldn't be able to get the electric fans until February when i do taxes. the belt fan is temporary The reason i chose to go with the flex-a-lite is because that one comes with a variable speed controller. I wasn't aware that newer Expy's used electric fans since when i test drove a 2015 it had a belt fan.
I try to use Autoanything.com for anything cosmetic and performance wise for the truck. Although when i re-did all four rotors i used brakeperformance.com and selected the drilled/slotted rotors for it.
The 2015 has a belt driven fan? Interesting.. I know the 2010-2014 with the 5.4 V8 had electrical fans, dual 15" I believe. You can buy the fan assembly for 120-190 bucks plus shipping depending if you go Dorman or Motorcraft.
I know the one I test drove was belt driven. Thats only because i asked to look at the engine prior to taking it out. I was unimpressed with the 2015. Suspension felt real "floaty" compared to mine. Power was there but I didn't like that I couldn't feel the torque as much when I pressed the gas.
Well, I can imagine the torque on the new feeling laggy, since it's got twin turbos with turbo lag.. The naturally aspirated engines are just there with you the second you hit the pedal, the turbo boosted ones need time to spool up the turbos before they get going.. The 3.5 Ecoboost is probably a great engine, but looking at the issues the 3V engine had, I can't imagine how much it cost if they have design flaws on the ecoboost, turbos are fragile and insanely expensive to replace....
Completely agree. I would love to put a supercharger on mine, and possibly add twin turbos. I did find a procharger which claims can add 925 HP and 1010 lb-ft. Wife asked why i needed that much power, responded with because I can https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/i...2/biglaugh.gif.
Hehe, that would be completely overkill here. But I want to convert to e-fans, better intake (possibly using the 3rd gen Expy intake as it seems to be pretty much bolt-on, but has better flow) and a true dual exhaust with an H pipe. Then perhaps a conservative chip tuning from 5star, possibly bumping it to 330-350 without hurting fuel mileage too much..
I'm looking to put the parts listed below into mine. Wife has no issues with it as long as i don't buy all of them at once. I'm still looking for an acceptable skid plate.
Only if the wife allows it. The truck is already loud with a single muffler so I can only imagine if it had two mufflers on it how loud it'd be. I know my neighbors hate when I start it at 9 PM to head into work since it wakes them up already.
Depends on how you build the exhaust. Doesn't have to get louder, could even be more silent, but just more awesome.. Usually they recommend H pipe for torque and trucks, but I think the difference between X pipe and H pipe is more in the sound rather than the performance.. hehe
I want to build for Performance, Off-road, and loudness all at the same time. Performance is so it can hang with anything that lines up next to it (already does that now, beaten a Camaro, Mustang and Vette a few times, rice burners stood no chance), Off-road so that i don't worry about hitting something on the bottom and damaging something crucial so a small lift would be nice. And loudness for that great muscle car sound, maybe even make it sound like a Ford GT.
First off, what could cause the fan to fail in the first place? Second, is it possible the fan clutch went out and caused the fan to fail spectacularly?
All any of us can offer from where we sit is speculation.
