EGR replace vs. EGR delete?

I have a 2004 6.0 power stroke v8 turbo diesel that, at least from what I'm being told, needs to have the EGR cooler and the oil cooler replaced. The best price I've been quoted is $3,500.00! Does this seem reasonable? And, would an EGR delete be the better way to go?

That sounds exactly like the quote I got for the same job. Parts were $400 with the EGR delete so I did the work myself and saved $3k.

I'm a fan of the EGR delete.

Really! I was told $350.00 for EGR cooler and $900.00 for oil cooler!

An OEM oil cooler is $300.
EGR deletes are anywhere from $50-$300. I'm not sure what an EGR cooler costs.

I see that you're in Oklahoma. What part? I'm in the Fort Smith area.

Check into the IPR Gen II egr delete. its a bit more than whats already been posted here although you will see why it costs a bit more. I will be going with this unit when the time comes.

The IPR Gen 2 is pretty nice, if I had looked around more, I would have bought it.
The ADT kit has never given me any problems in the 4 years it's been installed but I didnt use the supplied hose clamps with it either, they slipped before getting as tight as I wanted them.

One more thing fell'as! Diggin' around on YouTube, and whatnot, I've been hearing alot of seemingly knowledgeable mechanics recommend just welding the ends shut on both ends of the existing EGR cooler. What do y'all think about that procedure?

I think it's a good option if it's done right. Don't use freeze plugs, cut some nice thick steel plugs and the welding has to be good. You do keep the little blue hose that leaks often but the up pipe is still supported where it bolts to the egr cooler. Its very possible to pass a visual smog check with this mod, it looks factory and several have posted their trucks have passed an exhaust sniffer test also.

Are they sort of making a false claim with the above kit though?
*No tuner required! Kit does not require removal of the EGR solenoid
and will NOT trigger any check engine lights! If disconnecting the EGR
solenoid triggers a check engine light, you can leave the solenoid in place
and connected after completing the rest of the delete kit installation.
They make the kit for 2003-2007 models. Don't 2005 and up require a tuner to prevent the Check engine Light?

Some years will throw a CEL for EGR low flow.
So yes, that is a false claim for some trucks.
