Checked mine hot this morning when I got to work. About 1/2" above cold mark. I'll check before I leave this afternoon to see where I'm at. Now I'm paranoid. Think I smell coolant but there are zero signs of any.

I know this might be covered already, or more appropriate for a separate thread, but what exactly does the secondary cooling system protect? Do the two systems ever meet anywhere? It was a tad low when I topped off the primary a month ago.

When my truck got towed in the first time for a busted injector clamp, the tech noticed the coolant bottle was low during the multipoint inspection. He traced the leak to the base of the turbo pedestal. He replaced the gasket and the problem was solved. It was a very small leak that would evaporate before it hit the garage floor so I never noticed it.

Did you ever notice a smell? I got back too late today to check my trk at work. This morning I thought I smelled coolant, but that was when I was loading up my tractor, around another hundred tractors. This evening when I got home I didn't. Paranoia has set in I assume......, that and old age.

It is pretty common to have the gasket leak on the back of the turbo on the 2011 truck. I had that same leak, Seems like it was $500-$700 to have the dealer fix mine, ( I was at about 130,000 miles so out of warranty)

The leak will drip down the back of the engine, bell housing and possibly to the ground. But a lot of the coolant will evaporate off and just leave a stain before hitting the ground and making a puddle. But the stain is visable dripping down the passenger side of the bell housing.

Every thing is fine now it seems. I must of had air pockets. Or it was the heat I was in out West. 95 deg. Average. It has been at max while driving many hundreds of miles at once hauling my Lance Truck Camper. When cold sitting overnight it read "min". After I added some here and there it seemed to settle down.

I know it's been a while but I finally found evidence of a leak, sort of. Noticed a few drops under front of drivers side of truck. Saw a trace of coolant at base of radiator support. This was three days ago but it hasn't dripped since and there is no decernable drop in fluid. Evidence is still there though. Going to dealer Monday. They want to charge 118 diagnostic fee unless repair is covered under extended warranty. I'm ok with that. It's just my fear it may not present itself. Hope the stains are enough. It's just weird it's not consistent.

You will want them to pressure test the coolant system.

Were you able to swing by the dealer today, Bazillions? Let me know what they discovered; I'll be here if you need my help. What's the current mileage on your truck?

Hi Crystal. Dropped it off just a little while ago. Said it would be a couple of days to look at it and get back with me.
I've got 38900 on it. I do have the ESP. It was below 36000 when I noticed the missing coolant and bought a gallon at the dealer, but I didn't take it in since I couldn't find any evidence of a leak. No biggie, 100.00 deductible isn't bad if it's covered. We'll know in a few days.

This was the first I saw of any evidence and only noticed a few drops on the driveway once. I hope they can trace the stain at the very least.

Keep us posted, Bazillions. If you need my help after getting a diagnosis, shoot over a PM with your details. I'll need your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.

Thanks again Crystal. I've had nothing but good experience with this dealer except for the waiting, but they are a little smaller so I understand and it's been worth it so far.
