steering wheel heating up

yep, you read right. first time i've noticed this in 2 years of driving the truck. i'm driving around this morning and put my hand on the spoke at 9 o'clock, where the cruise control controls are and the damn spoke was very warm to the touch. it got warmer as i felt the plastic trim area around the controls as well as the area on the rear of the wheel. wtf, i use the cruise every day for my high way commute and never felt this before. i had thoughts of the steering wheel was going to internally combust or worse yet, the air bag exploding in my face. for the hell of it, i put the ac on and directed the vent on the area of the wheel, and the whole wheel was ice cold except where i was experiencing the heat, still warm. what's going on? anyone know?

that's odd. the only thing i can think of is the lights in the buttons, or the little circuit boards that i am guessing are behind the buttons are heating up.
my old 98 ranger did this very same thing right around the cruise control buttons.
i just left it alone, and nothing ever happened, but it was pretty warm like you described.

yeah. pretty sure it's no issue but damn, hot enough to mention to see if anyone else has noticed it. i am going to mention it when i go in for service in a couple of weeks. oddly, the other side with sync, volume, and phone control buttons cool to touch.

I'm glad you're getting your dealership involved, greencobra. What's your truck's model year/mileage? I'll be here if you need help cooling off your steering wheel.
