I am swapping the steering column from a 65 1/2 ton. I have a new column from a 73 XLT. The 65 doesn't have flashers at all. Just a horn button and turn signals.
Wiring from the 65 column is fairly straightforward, however the 73 has a large harness plug.
Has anyone done this before? I need a wiring diagram or tips. I looked on motor haven but they only have wiring diagrams for 63-67.
I did the same thing with my 66 using a 73 column. I'm not sure that it was an XLT, but I wouldn't think it makes a difference. What I did was clip the plug off and splice cab harness wires into the column's harness using solderless bullet connections. It's been a while since I did it (10 years ago), but memory tells me it wasn't too difficult as most if not all of the wire colors matched. I'll have to get back under there and look now, but I think that's right...j
That would be great if you could. Yes, I didn't figure it to be too difficult. The 66 has 7 wires and the 73 has 11. I would bet the extra wires are for the hazard lights, but I wouldn't mind knowing for sure. Makes the project go smoother when you know.
I'm sorry I haven't had time to get under there and look. I have had a couple of home improvement projects keeping me busy and out of my truck. I'll try to check this week. Sorry again for the delay!
