Finally go the Ex home last night, started 0-dark-30 from central Oregon Thursday Morn(0500) in a rented Mustang convertible (6cyl turbo, surprisingly fun/peppy car!) got to Reno about noon, checked out the Ex, drove it 400+ miles home from Reno w/o any issues, which is a good sign for me! Let me do a quick break down of the truck thus far, some good and bad:
Interior is a 9/10! Leather is perfect, everything works as it should (except the DVD player, has a DVD - Back to the future- stuck in it and wont eject, wonder how long that been in there>? haahaha) First "MOD" removing these hideous carpet kit that is covering the dash/center console..
Gauges (3) one is Pyrometer- seems to work, was usually around 620 degrees, up hills I saw it as high as 850?
Boost Gauge work, but has a static (resting) readout of 5, needle does not go below 5? Gauge broken?
Top gauge is a PSI, I think maybe it had Air Bags at one point but does not now, no bags but the red lines are still in place, so it not functioning, may replace it?
Both drivers seat power/heat works, rear vent windows open with the switch, not sure what else there is?
Oh the "chip" he did not know what it it, but there is actually a little black selector on the dash just to the left of the steering column.?? Says you can turn it to increase boost? I did not mess with it.
Exterior:
Paint is decent, some spots are in good shape, some spots are "10 footer", there is some paint fading, and some clear coat peeling, some bad paint. Mostly toward the top/roof, and the rear doors are faded- are they fiberglass? Front bumper has dent on it- saw new bumpers for 150.00 so was not a deal breaker, or might be a good reason to upgrade to a deer mover?
Tires 35x12.5x 17, Toyo= 85% tread left. Lift on it appears to be a little dated, springs have Sky Jacker on it, there appears to be some lift blocks between the leaf springs and the Differential, probably why it rides fairly stiff? Or is the the shocks, cant tell what kind they are? Would like to soften the ride a bit if possible-
Exhaust is fairly large, maybe 4in, and the end tail pipe says Magnaflow.
I am sure things will develop, and I will continue to build on this but lets fulfill those see about some pictures.
Your EGT temps sound good, actually a bit better than mine but it's hot here in Tx. I run high 6's low 7's on the highway. The boost gauge is bummer. Make sure you check out Riff Raff and all the fun stuff they have. They have a boost gauge that goes in where the AIH is (it gets deleted) and works great. Make sure you check out the Hutch mod! Good luck!

1. Find your EGT pyro location to determine if it is installed pre or post turbo. Each location will dictate a different max temp reading or redline on your gauge. Getting it wrong can be Expensive !
2. Bummer about the skyjacker springs, skyjacker is notorious for using way to stiff of spring rates. If it were me a lower spring rate would be high on my list of changes.
3. Congrats, She's a beauty.

As for the switch beside it I don't know what that would be. My guess is it was installed by a previous owner.

Yeah, the switch is odd- I can flip it and it makes noise behind the dash, I am starting to think maybe its for the old On board air system? But it there room to put one behind the dash? Thats where the sound comes from?
Thanks LL! I am now one of the "COOL KIDS"!
Camo, here is a picture- and it would appear it is "pre" turbo? Right?
You need a shock with more compression and rebound dampening in them to control a stiffer spring. You could put on a "softer" shock but if I doesn't have enough valveing it will handle like a water ballon. Maybe go with the rancho 9000 adjustable valveing and see if you can get a decent balance between to stiff and to mushy.
