I purchase parts from Rock Auto and they just sent me a list of wholesale / close out parts for the 1984 F150. Some parts [ignition, gaskets, etc.] reflect that my son's truck as well as mine has 4.9L engine, but most parts will work whether 6 or 8 cylinder.
I bought new hoses from Rock Auto 2 years ago, when I bought my 84. I've already replaced the bypass hose, that split. My friend who helps me with the truck says the 2 main radiator hoses looks like they're about to go. Who knows where they got them, or how old they were.
I will be wary of Rock Auto purchases from now on.

Some brands are better than others!
Thanks David for the tip and link, some really good prices!

I agree with Galendor. I've bought plenty of parts from Rockauto, and never had an issue. Of course, I don't buy the cheapest part they have, I get the middle of the road ones that are still a reputable brand, like Timken or Moog for examples.
It's entirely possible you got hoses that have sat around for years...but if it was foreign made, the quality is usually crap to begin with.
P.S: Thanks for sharing the link, there are way more parts listed than I thought they would have for closeout!

Hmm, not sure why you would have had any issues other than old/defective. In any case, myself and others have had issues with new parts, no matter what source.
I've had Motorcraft ball joints direct from a Ford dealer crap out after less than a year.
My dad has gone through 2 hubs on his Ranger, one was a Motorcraft as well. Those were in the last few months.
One of my friends had a serpentine belt snap while the engine was running, I think he bought it from a box store.
Another friend had 2 alternators bad right out of the box, also from a box store.
