9" Rear questions
'66 F-100 3 speed overdrive (original T-85N with .69 final ratio) behind a 352. It had a 3.5 Ford 9" chunk (or pumpkin for you Yankee types) in it, shorter axles, 28 spilne, and want to go to a taller gear to imrpove highway mileage.
I have a 3.00 out of a '76 F-150, but it has the longer axles with 31 spline. It was going to cost $200 to have the '76 axles cut and resplined. So, I traded around for a 28 spline 2.75, and it is definitely too tall.
Conditions: Money is definitely an issue.
Possible solutions:
Can I change the spider gear parts and the splined parts from inside the the 3.5 or 2.75 chunk into the 3.00? Without having to change out the pinon crush bearing and all?
If so, how?
Thanks for any help!
By the way, none of these chunks are limited slip.
