I have searched and read lots of things on the tailgate window .. But have had no luck with fixing mine.
I have a 95 Bronco.
I checked the switches i am getting juice to those and getting juice all the way to the motor but have put three motors on the darn thing and still can't get it to move up and down.
It started out just moving extremely slow .. Took and wd-40 everything and that helped , then it just up and stopped working totally.. Thankfully in the up position...
I can't even make these other motors click make some sort of noise anything when we hook then up but yet tests show that they are getting juice to them.
Any help would be appreciated.
Am so tired of pulling my bunker gear from behind the seat of the truck
On my 78 i replaces the gears and when reinstalling the motor the gears bound up. I losed the motor and hit the switch it made a small pop noise and the gears lined up and i retighted it worked great
Problem I have been having is ,, Shouldn't once i hook the wires to the motor even prior to installing in correct position shouldn't it click or turn.... I tried to test it prior to positioning it in place to see if it would work and it wouldn't do anything yet the wires show to be hot .... I bought a used motor from a salvage yard then got mad and said well its bad to and went and bought one from the auto parts store and it does the same thing...
Exactly how are you hooking up the voltmeter? If you put 12V power directly to the motor, does it turn? Look thru the Tailgate Tech album in my signature link.
Hey steve83, while were on the subject. Where can I buy one of those plastic clips that clips to the metal rod. I need th clip that connects the rod to the latch that runs the window safety latch.
You know, the one that keeps you from opening the tailgate when the window is too high.
I think JBG sells them for ~$1ea, but I collect them in junkyards. You can use the REALLY old metal style clips, or either of the plastic styles. You could even make your own, or just zip-tie the rod to the mechanism. It doesn't have to spin freely - it only needs to point basically down.
check to make sure the screw that is at the end of the motor isnt too tight. theres a flathead screw with a nut around it that puts pressure on the end of the shaft inside the motor, try loosening that a little and see if the motor works, i have had that problem with 2 of mine.
I have no idea what years the metal ones were used - I guess I remember them from the '75 Bronco I built. The plastic ones are fine, though. I've never had one break.
This is one of the plastic styles - I think JBG sells the other.
They were pushing the tip of the voltmeter thru the wire to test ... As far as hooking it up directly to the charger and testing it I believe they did that as well .....
But with all three motors which included the new one it wouldn't turn...
Is it just bad motors??? or maybe they are hooking it up directly wrong am unsure how they did it and maybe the charger wasn't enough juice...
I just know its getting to be a pain int he rear to fix and I may just end up having to live with pulling bunker gear from behind the seat
If the motor won't turn with a battery charger powering it, either the motor is bad or the charger is. The motor pulls less than 2A when it's turning. Try running some wires off the battery to test the motor.
One thing to check is that with most power window motors you have 3 wire running to it for power. At not in use position on the switch, you will have power running to only 1 wire and the other 2 will be grounded. When you hit the down, the you will have 2 wires with 12 volts and one groiund, then when going up, the wire that is ground and the new wire with 12 volts, will switch position. All you are doing is switch the polarity of the input. One way goes up the other reverses the motor to run it down. All 3 must be hooked up for it to work properly.
Ford power windows aren't wired that way. They only have 2 wires, and BOTH are grounded if NEITHER switch is in use. Depending on what you want it to do, one of the switches will unground one wire and put 12V to it so the motor spins in the desired direction. That applies to lock motors, too.
