This thread is for those stories that almost happened... or might have happened... or maybe could have happened... but are funny anyhow.
When I was in the Navy, this sort of story usually started off with "Now this is no bull#&(^, but..."
The best of these stories will seem completely credible until the last line.

I freely admit it, I’m a fair weather camper. It’s a summer thing. Pack up the truck and go up into the mountains… find a lake or a river… maybe do a little gold panning.
I tried snow camping once. ONCE.
It was at Donner Lake, in California. Remember the Donner Party? Twenty-two foot snow drifts, and the allegations of cannibalism? That’s the place.
It was cold all right. I figured that I’d be ok, because I had the gear to keep warm.
It happened right after dinner. We’d just gotten done, but hadn’t quite gotten to the pots&pans stage when it happened.
It got so cold so fast that our campfire froze solid… we had to thaw that poor thing out before we could extinguish it for the night!

I’d gone drinking at a bar in Livermore, a bar I wasn’t familiar with.
I’d had a few and stepped outside, where the smokers were.
I noticed this gorgeous metallic blue Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
While I was admiring the bike, the motorcycle’s owner came outside and put his helmet on.
He was followed by a “BFM”, who was smiling and giggling.
I swear the bike looked at her, then looked at him and said “You’re #&(^’n me, right?”

I saw this terrible accident the other day.
This vintage T-Bird ran a red light and t-boned a Mustang II.
Both cars were totaled.
It was horrible… there was horse#&(^ and feathers all over the intersection!
