Headlight mounts for a '79
I have a slight question, and I hope someone out there knows an answer to it.
For the '78-'79 grille, would the headlight mounts from a round-headlight '78 work later on for making it a square-headlight truck? What I'm referring to are the mounting flanges that attach to the radiator support, not the headlight buckets that the headlights actually sit in.
I have a chance at picking up a set until I can locate a pair of square-headlight bezels and buckets.
The reason I asked is because according to the catalog I got from *** Truck, it looks as though they're virtually the same.
If anyone knows, I'd gladly appreciate it.
Thanks,
-Steven

You can replace the buckets though. They're only tack welded into place. You can drill a few holes and bolt the new ones on.
I, myself like the round ones. During the summer, I put in a set of old Mercedes Tri-bar non-fluted halogen headlamps I picked up at a swap meet. During the fall and spring, I switch over to the newer Mercedes Fogs, Fluted with the yellow lens. During the winter, I put in the reg. ole halogens I get from the junk yard for $1.00 each. I keep them clean, but don't care if they break!
You don't have to use the buckets from a 78'-79'. Any truck, van car that used the rectangular headlamps will work.
Talk with you later....
I went to a parts yard and located a set of headlight mounts w/ buckets for a '79 with the square headlights - and they included the headlights in them, which saved me some $$ in the end.
I've already done the grille swap, etc. Now on to the task of locating the side trim (the trim with the black rubber bead) and the trim for the lower part of the body.
This truck is already starting to look awesome!
