I shouldn't even have read this thread. Where I live, fuel is currently £3.50/gallon (over $5 US) and rising fast. My last 4X4 was an Isuzu Trooper 2.8TDi that would return 40mpg at a steady 80mph. My every day car is a VW Passat 1.9TDi that gives 54mpg no matter what I do to it.
I keep my F250 only for fun and even then it has to be pretty damn close to home.
But still, you can't help loving it.. I'd pay £10 a gallon just for the pleasure if owning the truck. (oil companies please ignore that last statement)
74 F-100 4X4 with a worn out 360 & C6, I get about 11 MPG
I just scored a 428 block, and am rounding up all the parts
for about 350 to 380 horse, just enough power to keep breaking stuff! Mileage isnt really a factor tho... I just bought a brand new Honda Shadow, and its getting around 65 MPG.
i have a 400 w/ an old crane cam setup from the early 80's, edelbrock hi-rise and holley 650. fantastic power, but at about 8mpg w/o the hubs locked in. get the truck and swap in something other than a boat anchor. no offense.
