My 04 F 350 started with a check guage light while going down hill towing an 18 ft car hauler full of mulch. Did it for 5 seconds, then when we got to our land and I was getting ready to back up it did it again. and this time my oil pressure gauge was at zero. I shut her down. checked the oil. its full. Drive home eveything is good. Today I'm getting fuel pressure guage going nuts. 80 to 100 PSI. at idle no oil pressure and the check guage light. but the engine is still running. Oil was changed 4K ago. fuel filters same.
Read the code.
Make sure your using a OEM cap and filter for oil.
Check the oil sensor connector by wiggling it, make sure it's not oil soaked and flooded in the connector. If it gets 7psi, it goes to the middle, if not it doesn't move.
I checked codes. have P0401 EGR system, P0500 VSS sensor, and P1102 mass airflow sensor. Oil filter cap is Ford. But the oil pressure sensor connector looks like its oil soaked, so I'm thinking sender. Sounds like a good time to add a real oil pressure guage. I may have to replace the fuel pressure sender too, it was an inexpensive Glow Shift I picked up on Craigslist. It just seemed weird that both went out at the same time.
Oil pressure sending units are a high failure rate item. Oil in the connector is a sign that the sensor has problems. I would replace the sensor and reevaluate the concern before anything else.
