Question 66 f100 upgrade questions

Still wanting to hear from someone who has actually replaced the manual steering gear box with a power steering gear box in a 1966 f100 4x4.

Do I need to get a power unit from a 4x4?
Are there any alterations required?
Has anyone done power brakes for this model?

YES it has to be from a 4X4.

PERHAPS, may have to "hog out" bolt holes a little. Most use 3/8 Dia bolts but some have 1/2", No I don't know which ones or why.

I do know you must match the pump to year/type P/S Box you get. Old style pumps with reservoir on top blow slipper type P/S Box seals in a New York Minute! AND . . . . . .

Using older box, for top reservoir style pump, & trying to drive it with slipper pump gives you chatter & cramp because it's not got what it takes to pressure old type boxes, especially if you run mudders.....SOOooo, Match your box & pump and you ought to be alright. Good Luck. FBp

I was going to to do that, but after redoing the front end, it steers just fine without P/S now! I was going to use a '78-'79 Bronco box. I got all the parts. The rotation of the box needs to be reversed, I found a place that would do that or you can do it yourself if you know how to "rebuild" a box! Email me if your interested in the parts.
