Off to the drive line shop.

Well hello all of you FTErs, I hope you all had a nice week end. As for me with a list of measurements and photos as reference Im off to the local driveline shop (yes we have one in our little town) to have my drive shaft lengthened. The pic below will explain.

Lengthened, or shortened? No one here will lengthen a DS, they insist on re-tubing it.

Local shops here in the San Diego area usually have a large supply of used shafts that they will turn down for you at a considerable savings over a new tube. There is no way that I would run a driveshaft that has been welded along the tube.

Agreed, if the driveshaft is too short hit the junkyards for one to shorten or start with new.

Thanks Ross you are so correct. I was in the middle of posting when my wife called from Ga. where she is visiting family, so I rushed thru the post and didn't proof read B4 I hit enter. The old timer at the Drive line shop I went to did not even give lengthening the old shaft as an option, only new tube, or pre used tube of the proper length. I opted to use new tube, new ends and reusing my old slip joint. I appreciate you bringing up what Im sure is a safety issue, I would never want to send anyone down the wrong road as far as safety goes. In the pic I posted, what you are looking at is the slip joint next to the C4 output snout, with the rear u joint bolted to the 9". As you can see Im short, the splines in the slip joint tube barely hit the splines on the C4 output shaft, which was expected. I cant wait to get the new DS. All I have left to do is brake lines, brake adjustment and bleeding, parking brake connecting, and filling the rear with oil and additive, and hope for no leaks LOL. "EDIT" Thanks to all of you, Ross just happened to be the first post I read, we all seem to be on the same page with this one.
