ok, need opinions on engine mounts for a 460 swap from 400 in a 78 f250. When i first did the swap i went with L&L and honestly i'm not very pleased. what are you guys using ? who else makes a quality swap mount? is rubber better than solid ? any help is appreciated. thanks.
The 460 was a stock option for RWD F-250s so your local boneyard might have the brackets that you need while your local parts supplier may have the rubber parts.
NC Specialties. A member here I think (InfoFord). I've used two sets of his custom made frame perches for 400/460 swaps in 79 Broncos. Allows use of factory engine mount/isolator. Fit was perfect.
thanks guys, i'll check into them. when i bought my L&L mounts they said " lifetime guarantee " only to find out that you have to pay a percentage for replacement. the rubber tore away from the metal plate , engine was stock 460.

2WD brackets (aka engine supports/perches/towers/stands) will not work with 4WD as there's no engine cross member to bolt them to.
460 not available with 4WD or a M/T until 1983, so the only engine mounting parts for prior years are aftermarket.

I have had a 460 in my '78 F-250 4x4 for about 25 years. I installed L&L mounts with the factory 400 frame brackets in my '78 F-250 4x4 about 20 years back, replacing some fabbed frame brackets that allowed me to use the factory 2wd mounts.
I don't use my '78 as much as I used to, but when I do use it it is usually overloaded and has a trailer hitched to it.
The L&L mounts set the 460 a bit lower than I was happy with, but after all these years, and abuse, I haven't had any problems with the mounts or install.
My L&L insulators came with a lifetime warranty. Don't know if the new L&L's do. Perhaps they have changed??
I have seen the WCB mounts and they do look bullet proof. In my opinion, the thru bolt design of the WCB mount offers a better safety factor than the L&L, but as I said, I haven't had any issues with my L&L mounts. If the WCB mounts had been available (or if I had known of them) 20 years ago I probably would have gone with them over the L&L.
Roger Carter. my L&L mounts are from nearly 22 years ago. i was told when i purchased them that they have a lifetime warranty only to find out that they've had so many problems with the rubber separating from the Steele plate that they now require you to pay a percentage for replacement ( at their discretion of course ).

Good to know. Thanks.
If mine ever need replacing I'll know what to expect.
