1959 F-750 Fire Truck

I'm trying to get my '59 F-750 fire truck running well enough to help protect my small farm here in Idaho as we've been having a terrible fire year. I believe that the engine is a 332 c.i. I replaced the rotor, condensor, points, plugs, coil, distributor cap, and plug wires. Then I had some major fuel problems (bad fuel pump, rotten rubber lines, and a huge Holley 4 barrel that was leaking like a sieve. I've put in an electric fuel pump, new fuel lines, and a new Edelbrock 4 barrel. The truck idles great and rev's ok but under a load (driving) it bogs down and back fires. My guess is that it's either not getting enough fuel (too lean) under a load or getting too much fuel or my timing is off. I've been searching the Internet to find what the timing settings should be. I've only found some info for 332 car engines (like 3 to 5 degrees BTDC). Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike Lechner

Haven't dealth with that engine but if it has been sitting, does it have any obstruction in the exhaust? Have you tried posting in the FE big block section? FE & FT Big Block V8 (332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, 428) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

He's found help in Large truck, and he's found water in the fuel. The 332 he has is a Lincoln Y block truck engine, not the car-only FE 332.

I have not checked for an obstruction but don't think that's the problem. Anone have any experience with vacuum governors? My old carb (Holley 4150 g) had one. My new Edelbrock doesn't have one. I'm going to plug the vaccum line that used to go to the governor and give that a try.

Thanks,
Mike

This 332 is not an FE or FT engine, it's a Lincoln derived Y block.

This and its smaller brother 302 were installed in 1956/63 C & F700/800 & 1963 N700/750.

NumberDummy,

I was traveling this week and didn't see your post. Thanks for the nice engine illustrations. All those OEM Ford part numbers on the drawings?

Pic from 1957/63 Ford Truck Parts Catalog-Illustrations, but these pics only show basic Ford part numbers.

The Text section is required to get the complete part number by adding the prefix and suffix.
