87 F150 Fuel issues?
Truck has been sitting for a week while I was at the beach. Cranked it up this evening to ride to the store. No problems. After a mile or less, I made a left turn and it stalled. Wouldn't start. Felt like it was out of gas... which is possible given I knew it might be getting low. But not sure how low... Flipped switch to front tank. Wouldn't start.
Added 2 gallons of gas to the rear tank. Started and then died after 2 or 3 seconds. Wouldn't start. Added 2 more gallons. Same thing. Started, ran rough for 2 or 3 seconds and died. The first time I attempt to start after letting it rest is most successful. It gets worse on successive attempts to start.
Dark now. Will work on it tomorrow. I'm new to these trucks. What am I likely facing? Fuel Sending Unit? Fuel Pump? Relays? Something else?
Any ideas on where to start is helpful. Thanks!
2) there is a fuel pump in each gas tank and another high pressure pump on the frame rail toward the firewall. You need to listen for the pumps turning on when the key is cycled on.
When I bought my truck I found out the hard way that the mechanical selector valve was stuck in position for the front tank. Had a whole tank of gas I couldn't access.
