Hi, putting a '73 4.9L engine in an '83 f250. Want to know if I need to use a resistor wire for coil. Using complete '73, carb, dist, coil, etc.. Any info will be helpful. Thanks...
Yes
You will need a resistor or resistor wire while the ignition switch is in the run position.you can buy the wire with the resistor built in (dont shorten) or
You can do what i did use a ceramic resistor like for a 55 chevy or dodge used them in the 70's.just wire it in and mount.
If you use the factory coil wiring there is a resistor built in. To use a separate one will require separate wiring. And there is no reason I can see to do that.

Hey, thanks. Just been real bz. Just wondering if you know if i can just use the '83 electronic distributor. I just bought a new one while i was trying to figure out what is wrong with '83. I'd rather use the '83 ignition, at least for now. I'm just too caught up in other things to fool around with changes.
Thanks again for the response.
