misfire # 3

hello all,
My truck just started jerking on the highway at about 65-70. It would run smooth if I got off the gas slightly but accelerating or pulling a small hill would cause this jerking and loss of power agian. The 25-30 miles it took me to get home it ran pretty bad and I was going apx. 55mph and slower. I thought it was the transmisson but the check engine light started flashing and then stayed constent so I hit the autozone on the way home were I got the code read "mis fire on # 3". After reading some post I thought plugs+ wires. I guess thats tomorrow? One more thing .. I punched it out when it first started acting up and the engine ran up the rpms real high and there was no power just like the tranny was slippen big time. I pulled over and stut it off waited 5 min or so and put it in gear and applyed gas with the brake on and there was no slip. The truck has 120,000 miles and thus far has ran perfect. I run syn oil and take real good care of her allthough,I don't think the plugs have been changed. Sorry for the long post ,I think I'm trying to think it out slowly like I type.
Please, any input would be helpfull. I think the plug wire post is going to be a big help for me tomorrow. Thanks , Justin

Hi Justin and welcome to FTE
#3 isn't tooo bad to do.
Hopefully the "slip" sensation you felt was due to a lack of power because of the miss.
Let us know how it goes.

Should I just change the one cop on number there and pull the plug to see if they have been changed before? Also where do I get motorcraft parts I read on this board thats the way to go. Will autozone have it or should I call ford? Thanks agian

I would start with just replacing the plug and see if that fixes it. If not then replace the COP.
Apparently some parts stores sell Motorcraft parts. I work at a dealer so that's where I get them.

one more question please... An Autozone genuis just informed me the he carries Wells cop's for 55$ and that they make motorcaft one too. His words same part different box. How full of s#@* is he? I know it took a ac delco org fuel pump to get up to 62 psi to open the poppet values on a friends chevy. So I don't take it softly that everyone on this board suggests morocraft replacment parts. Thanks agian this board rocks!, Justin

I just noticed racerguy is from Canada eh? Thats were me motor was built Thanks guys, great truck!

Well, it comes down to this, in my opinion. If at 120k miles you're not sure if the plugs have ever been changed, then it's time to change them regardless!
