So, I have a 1990 302 f150, it is 2wd and i want to increase the power of the truck, now i am fairly new with mechanical work, but i feel as if i know a decent amount. Now, i already have plans to put headers on and do a full exhaust, also new plugs, and wires but im not sure what to do about the distributor, can i just buy an msd cap and rotor kit, or do i have to buy a whole new distributor?
MSD cap and rotor is what you need. No reason to replace the entire distributor. Do not spend unneeded money on fancy plugs, plain copper is more than enough. Do not skimp on the plug wires......
MSD is JUNK and I don't run it. Many others will concur that there QC has been terrible for many years now. There is really no reason to steer away from Motorcraft ignition components. I've read thread after thread of ignition failure and ignition/starting failure is a scenario I would much rather not adventure into.

yeah, ive been reading alot about different options, and that is one thing ive seen come up alot, and i dont want to spend $500 on a really good one, because i have a stock 302, which will have minimum work done to it, so its always good to hear from someone with some experience, and not the guys who post on forums right after installing it, and saying how good it looks
The only reason I used MSD cap and rotor was it has brass terminals and I could buy them local. As previously stated there is no reason to replace the factory distributor, it is a well built piece. No sense spending money on something only because it is shiny.

well the only reason i want to replace it is because it is cracked, and it seems the terminals are pretty bugared up, so i figured if i replace it use something quality that works, but there is alot out there, thats why im looking for guidance from some experienced people
I've run the msd cap n rotor on a lot of things over the years and never had a problem...doesn't mean I think it's superior, but for things like caps n rotors they do the job.
I won't own anything MSD after 2 failed ignition coils and a cheap rotor.
After seeing the difference between Motorcraft rotor, I yanked the MSD one off and put the Motorcraft one on.
Only reason I don't fool with these aftermarket ignition parts is the unknown life and high failure they have. Have 3 Motorcraft ignition coils that work better and have 20+ years on them.
Only thing I see as a benefit is the brass terminal cap. But I would rather buy the brown Accel version.
