I recently installed a set of gauges on my 1999 ford f-250 sd v-10, My question is my oil pressure reads 60 at start and then it starts to drop I've seen it as low as 15. Is this normal? I run 5w-30 durablend valvoline oil and change it every 3000 miles. I realize that when the oil temp rises it thins the oil but 15 seems really low. It's been 90-100 outside temp also. Theres been no noises or problems but it does not seem right. Oh this pressure is at a ilde after it warms up, and it does not matter how old or fresh the oil is. Soon as I step on the gas pedal it goes to 30-40. The stock gauge reads above normal side of the middle, and the gauges are mechanical auto-meter. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Terry!!!
my V-10 has 103,000 miles on the clock, and i run petroleum 10-30 in it. cold start up, it runs 65 at idle, and 80 at 2000. hot (after running for a half hour and the tranny temp at 150, sorry, no engine oil temp gauge) 35-40 at idle and 55-60 at 2000+. all this on a gaffrig 270 degree sweep electric gauge that runs true to an autometer mechanical gauge. hope this helps....
I have about the same oil pressure. Mine reads 60-65 cold..but after running awhile then idle it's about 15-20. I'm running 5w-30 oil. No probs.. 46k miles on it so far.
