Hey guys. I've got a 78 F100 swb 2wd 300 inline 6 with a C6 automatic troubles. The forward gears don't engage but it goes into reverse just fine. Checked the linkage and that's where it should be, thinking it's the torque converter. Planning on a rebuild. But I have found another C6 auto from a 91 with the 300 for a good price. It's a Heavy Duty C6. Wondering if it will be a rudimentary swap or will the HD pose an issue. Your thoughts?
Yes, it's internal to the transmission - the clutches and bands are hydraulically-driven; the piston that engages that clutch is sealed by essentially a large O-ring, and that seal has presumably failed, so that the hydraulic pressure no longer engages the clutch, but just slips past the piston.
