sputtering over 2000rpm
I have a 1986 F150, 351 w 4bbl carb, and when I reach 2000rpm and over it's starts like to lose power and dont want to go right and maybe even a little sputter and if I going over 40 and let off the gas there is a loud POWWWWWWW, backfire? It runs very smooth at idle though. Could it be EGR ....how can you test it? I was even told it might be spark plug wires....arcing. But I replaced them not to long ago...maybe 4 or 5 years...but only have about 3000 miles on them. i put a new fuel pump from ford dealer about 3 or 4 years ago too. Could I get some help please?

I'm no expert, but it sounds like a carb problem. Gaskets for the carb may be dry/cracked and sucking air whery they're not supposed to? I read somewhere in a few theads that if the air and gas mixture aren't right, you'll get that popping from the exhaust too.
