Axle removal

I've searched and searched but haven't found a clear answer. Anybody know how to pull the axles on a '56 F100? Is it really as simple as removing the 4 bolts holding the backing plate on? Didn't see any clips holding them to the diff.

Yes, it's that simple in theory. They can get difficult to persuade out of there. An axle puller/slide hammer helps, or a tire and wheel loosely attached can be use to pull it out. Don't forget the seal. I pry the out with the end of the axle.

Yup, 4 bolts. Came right out! And I also used the axle to help pull the seal out. Thanks!
