I want to change my current air intake snorkel (which rests above the radiator) so it fits next to the radiator and gets the air moving through the front grill instead of being jammed up against the hood. I have read that the pre-1992 F150s have this type of snorkel. I called the dealer and they said the part is obsolete. I have also called some places I got off of the internet but have not had any luck finding one yet. Before I go searching the boneyards, does anyone have a good place for getting discontinued OEM parts? Thanks.
money - really? your 1990 goes over the radiator as well?? i'm sure i read somewhere on FTE that some pre-1992's had the snorkels on the side of the radiator.
My 87 302 has the inlet next to the radiator in the grille, as well as my dad's 92 300. I'd rather have the one from the 300, because the inlet on mine is rediculously small for anything bigger than a 4 cylinder, and it has a heat riser in it as well. This is the only EFI vehicle I have ever seen with a heat riser on the intake. A 92 with the 300 six should have the inlet in the grille, and it has an opening about as big as the opening at the bottom of the air box, so you won't get much restriction from that one, even though it is on a 300 intake.
hey Ronf150 , i did what u'r asking about.moved the stock snorkel to besides radiator where there are factory rectangular holes.i removed the complete snorkele and plastic rippled pipe from the air filter box, then i separated the rippled plastic pipe where there is a joint.gotta do dry run on snorkel to test fit on rectangular hole(trimming is neccessary).then force snorkle into rectangular (use zip tie ) to keep snorkle from moving.then attach the second part of rippled pipe into air filter box and then force the rippled area where the joint is to meet with snorkle joint.this will need some elbow grease .
i just used the stock stuff but am looking for an extra snorkle to always have in stock location incase of crazzy weather. so far have checked filter and had a bunch of bugs because the light is right there.
no RAM effect but lots of cold air which can't b wrong.
email me for more instructions if u want.
Hey guys! I know it's dying out, but up here, we've got a few "auto recycler" yards, that still let us wander in the yards and pull what we want. A new snokel set-up sounds like a great idea. I had an exterior snorkel on my 78' Bronco. But, I used to live up near Lake Ontario. Now I live next to the Genesee River. I may have to do up another one! I can't seem to get away from the water! Talk with you guys later....
The '95 4.9L uses the fresh-air inlet beside the radiator, but it probably doesn't clear the accessories on a V-8 which would be why they routed it over the core support.
It's not a restriction either way, though, or it would collapse at high speed. It's not rigid enough to hold its shape if there was a big pressure drop. Don't worry about it.
Guys,
Here's the part number you need.
F3TZ-9A675-B
It's $14 at my dealer. It will fit all trucks and goes on the side of the radiator. There is a guy on here that has one on his 5.0, also this is a factory F-250, 5.8 item.
I also founf it online for about 2 bucks cheaper. I'm going to pick one up from the dealer soon.
Originally posted by mrwizard I believe someone said the snorkel for the 460 goes by the side of the radiator and works with the 302 airbox.
I went one step further and replaced the whole air duct system with sheet metal heating/ac ducts and 4" aluminum dryer vent.
Bought another 4V air cleaner at the salvage yard, cut out an oval opening where the square one was under the "intake horn" and riveted in a 4" round/flat surface adaptor. I removed the grille and installed the biggest intake area that would fit between the radiator and the grille support. Between the two I ran the 4" aluminum flex tube.
If this sounds confusing look at these pictures. Mine's set up like the photo of the 57 Chevy. It may take a while to download on a slow connection.
