I need to replace the turn signal switch on my 97 Aerostar, which involves removing the steering wheel. Can anyone outline the procedure for removing the airbag?
I would advise you to take it in to a dealer or someone who specializes in that sort of things. Under no circumstances should you try it yourself. You might do something wrong and cause it to deploy when you are driving. If you own a 86-91 Aerostar then you're fine since they don't come with airbags.
If you need to work arounds the airbag (repair dash or work under dash) then you should disconnect the battery and wait 5-10 minutes.

1992 Ford Aerostar. ERROR kilometers, and still going!
Try checking the posts on 6-11-2003 about replacing the clockspring. It might give you the information you need. Ford says to remove the postive battery cable a minimum of 10 minutes before starting on the airbag.
