My son has the same thing. Not fun during Memphis summers. He basically stays inside or goes swimming.

Actually I'm glad we did. That's the bad part about typing or texting, sometimes a statement can be taken two ways. Out of context. After our goofin', now there is no mix up. Thanks guys.

+1 to Ultraranger - no need to soak your shirt, it is that way in no time.
I hear you on that! I'm in west central florida. it was cool today 89 with a feels like of 104. the other day it was 94 with a feels like of 114. can't go outside or in the garage for more that about 5 minutes without sweating completely through your clothes.

I hate the heat, I've been trying to talk my wife into moving back north to NH.

Besides myself, how many asphalt workers are on here? How many roofers are on this board? Doing asphalt, when the temp hits 104° feels like Freakin HOT!
Stay cool my friends.

You have my respect on that one also Robert. I have no clue how you do it. Above that asphalt has to be 125 degrees on a 104 day. Keep hydrated my friend. You use something like this?

Heat when working for Kaiser Steel Iron Ore mine in the low desert of So.Ca. 1970's
Operating a open cab D-9 dozer in summer time heat averaging 112-117 how I stayed cool. All equipment other then Ore truck had 5gal. iced water jugs.

In the summer time, I wet a rag about the size of a wash cloth soak it good with ice water
and placed it around the back of my neck plus take salt pills.

All the tractors had reverse eng. fans to push dust an heat away so heat from just sitting on top of that tranny & eng. was pretty hot added to out side air temp. 125-130

Don't know for sure of the temp running that D9 but if you leaned your head down for a couple of sec. your safety glass lens would drip haft full of sweat and dust if your were pushing dirt & rock. My hottest day waiting in line for my pay check 126 and blew out the AC on my vehicle driving home 11 mile. I open the wind wing the heat felt like a blast from a coke oven. Wow I shut the wind wing so fast closed my drivers window 2/3rd.

Oh and the wonderful days of a cool winner on a D9 when it's 16 degrees was no piece of cake either, I was off and down in front of that radiator to try an warm up long enough to run about 20 minutes longer.
The temps were about the same listed as far 60 miles away at Indio in the new paper.
Orich
Her one of the little truck at the mine max load was 350 tons.

Today I was running a load of trash to the landfill, illegal dump on the roadway where we were fixing the edges, anyway, I know everyone at the landfill so when I hit the scales one of the girls came over ant told me "Robert we have two openings for heavy equipment operators, you interested?" I looked at her as if she lost her mind.
I spent 20 years in the trash business and the last ten years doing asphalt, neither place is cool in the summer. At least doing asphalt I get more breaks.
If the county landfill wasn't like all other Gov't jobs, "Depends who you know" I'd be in charge of one of the landfills. There's two close by. I interviewed two years ago for a Mgr. position and was in line for the job when they hired a Relative to a high up Mgr. instead.
I was pissed he's not even MOLO certified and I am. Oh well that's Gov't for you.

I was kind of kidding about the mean streak. You certainly don't seem to at all. I thought you were just ******* him about riding on a hot day. The air cooled bikes like Harley's turn out some serious heat. And when the pavement is hot you are just stuck there on a hot day. I generally don't ride unless it is below 90. Anything over that and you are not going to have much fun. Plus, I refuse to ride in shorts and flip flops, it pulls my leg hair! lol

Stay cool my friends.
Spent a summer in Pecos, TX between semesters working for a general contractor. We did a couple of hot-tar flat roofs and a few metal ones. We would try to be on-site at day's first light and usually quit about 1 or 2 on the roofing jobs and would go on to other things.
What a miserable summer for a college kid. I never appreciated the cold beer at the end of the day more, though.

Well, I'll see what I can do this weekend Teach. This Saturday is my girlfriend's birthday. So I took Friday, Monday, and Tuesday off work. Giving her (and me) a 5 day weekend to do whatever she wants us to do. One of the traits of a good Leader (King) is to know when to lead and when to let someone else lead for a bit. I'm giving her the reins and a 5 day Birthday. I have no clue at the moment what we will be doing but I'll see if I can't blend in a JEFFFAFA version of your bucket cooler.

SO I'LL BE OFF THE RADAR THOSE 5 DAYS.

Not much you can do about the weather, other than live with it. I've got one of those cool kerchiefs, and keep the 2nd in the freezer. Your blood is closest to the surface in your neck, so cool it there. Heat stroke kills, as Ultra says, so staying cool is mandatory, not optional. I'm with gangstakr, and head to the pool. When out on the Sea of Cortez fishing, no amount of shade seems cool enough, so out comes the cool kerchiefs from the ice chest.. then at home, get in the pool..

That's the reflection of the shade over the pool... its just a bunch of sticks, laid out for shade...

OOOH. After seeing this, you can color me Jealous Buddy. Imagining Sun, Ocean breeze, might even give up my for a Foo-Foo drink with an umbrella, Etc. And this song playing on the Boom Box:
*
*
Zac Brown Band – Toes "Toes" as written by and Shawn Eric/durrette Mullins.... I got my toes in the water, a$$ in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today Life is good today

Well, the plane touched down just about three o'clock
And the city's still on my mind
Bikinis and palm trees danced in my head
I was still in the baggage line
Concrete and cars are there own prison bars like this life I'm living in
But the plane brought me farther
I'm surrounded by water
And I'm not going back again

I got my toes in the water, a$$ in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today Life is good today

Adiós and vaya con Dios
Yeah I'm leaving GA
And if it weren't for tequila and pretty senoritas
I'd have no reason to stay
Adiós and vaya con Dios
Yeah I'm leaving GA
Gonna lay in the hot sun and roll a big fat one
And grab my guitar and play

Four days flew by like a drunk Friday night
As the summer drew to an end
They can't believe that I just couldn't leave
And I bid adieu to my friends
Because my bartender she's from the islands
Her body's been kissed by the sun
And coconut replaces the smell of the bar
And I don't know if its her or the rum

I got my toes in the water, a$$ in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today Life is good today

Adiós and vaya con Dios
A long way from GA
Yes and all the muchachas they call me big poppa
When I throw pesos their way
Adiós and vaya con Dios
A long way from GA
Someone do me a favor and pour me some Jaeger
And I'll grab my guitar and play

Adiós and vaya con Dios
Going home now to stay
The senoritas don't care-o when there's no dinero
You got no money to stay
Adiós and vaya con Dios
Going home now to stay

(Just gonna prop up by the lake)
And put my a$$ in a lawn chair
Toes in the clay
Not a worry in the world a PBR on the way
Life is good today
Life is good today

The last verse is for those of us in the SE with our red clay!

Me, I'm a mountain guy - although the Appalachians are a bit small compared to the Rockies. If I never saw the ocean again it would not bother me a bit, but keep me from a cool stream or lake in the mountains, some trout fishin and some tall pines, and I would be a very unhappy camper!
