I've only had the Ex for a few months so I'm still learning...
After a trip to Orlando this weekend, I noticed a very faint odor of differential fluid from the driver's side front and rear wheels. Nothing on the passenger's side. I've inspected the pinions and axles and found no wet areas at all, so I'm a little perplexed. The wheels and axle housings were pretty cool considering a 5 hour round trip.
I was also wondering if what I am smelling is due to the axle vent hoses? Any ideas or suggestions?
I was going to say check the vent hoses both lead out on drivers side. Not that this has anything to do with your smell but... My clamps that route the hose were pinching it not allowing it to vent well. so I opened the clamps up a bit.
Yeah, I'll be doing that this weekend. I was just curious if I was overlooking something simple.
I'm not going to be tackling a front seal replacement - rears shouldn't be a problem. I can do those in a day. I can't have the truck down for as long as it'd take me to do the fronts so a mechanic gets that one.
I would suggest getting Mag-Hytec front and rear diff covers when you check/change the fluid. I have both (plus the transmission pan) and they are great. They are pricey, but you have the ability to change, add, check the fluid very easily. Plus they have magnetic plugs and dip sticks so that if there are any metal pieces floating around in your fluid they will go to one of the magnets.
I use AMSOil products and below are the types and amounts I use in each diff.
Front Diff 75W90 SVGQT 5 quarts + 1 tube ADATB
Rear Diff 75W140 SVOQT 6 quarts + 2 tubes ADATB
But of course first things first, you would need to address any leak/vent issues that you may have.

Good luck...
Hey I don't mean to hijack the thread, but do you a thread on your shocks. I'm assuming that's the "my ride" system?
Yes, I have the Rancho Wireless My Ride system (front and rear) with the Rancho 9000XL shocks. I installed all of it myself in the garage and it works great.
