engine works

Hi!
I'm a beginner with Bronco II '89, actually I got it as a heap of parts that I have to mount together
So There is a bare chassis with engine (2.9L) mounted, but transmission is on the shelf

Since I have a good access to engine, what kind of work should I do to the engine, before mounting transmission and body? I mean things that are more difficult to access later.

br,
Krahabors from Latvia

Valve cover gaskets on the 2.9 are notorious for leaking. Check on those while you have access to it. Does it run? Can you check the oil pressure. I could be wrong, but I believe anything in the oil pan (oil pan gasket, oil pump, etc.) requires lifting the engine off of the frame in order to get the oil pan off, so anything down there that needs replacing would be easier now. Rear main seal and such will be inaccessible once the transmission is bolted up, so check that.

Man I agree with Mrshorty, however if you ever planned on a engine swap, now would be the time.
