Tim, do you have any customers into drag racing? If so do any of them run a 335 series engine? Im thinking of building a street strip car and im thinking of challenging myself to see what ET i can get out of one of these engines and still be street able. I have easy access to 351w parts but i like these engines and after seeing what you have done its got me thinking? My biggest concern is the strength of block and crank, because it will have NOS. I really miss playing with the spray and the competition, I thought id ask here in case others found this interesting also.THANKS Tim.
This link tells about Steve Kenzel from Canada who races a Cougar.
The bigger Cougar, '71 or newer.
Runs about 7.16 in the 1/8 mile.
This is a 434 engine.
Not sure how many people drag race them.
U can guaratee you this, the "M" truck block will handle more power then the 351C block.
We are making over 600 HP and almost 600TQ in street trim.
im wanting to use a stock block, i like doing that,i already did what i was told i couldnt with a stock GM 454 block. I can buy Oliver billet main caps and have the block converted to a 4 bolt main, done that before, ive found a billet crank im thinking of buying, im waiting for diamond pistons to get me a price on the pistons, i want at least 13:1 comp, i want 700-750hp with out spraying it. Im looking at Kasse heads, just not sure i want to go that far again, but i sure miss it. Kaase C-400, CHI cylinder heads 351 400 Ford Moldex Billet (4340) steel crankshaft
Block is the weak link followed by pistons if you are using anything less than forged pistons. even then you can push a well prepped stock block well over 600hp without batting an eye. My 434 will be in the 800+ range (started with a 434 then a buddy built a 545 and I countered with a set of Yates d3 heads).

block is the only thing that has me worried, Diamond can make most any custom piston i need, ive worked with them for years on my BBC racing engines. I really dont want to go to an after market block so if we do this i will tone it down. Im thinking a 351m/400 block, i have a billet 4.25 stroke crank that im waiting find out if the stroke is do able in said block, i think i may do the Cleveland 4V heads. Once the block is sonic tested then we will know the bore size we can go to, then i'll call Diamond again on cost of the pistons. What block did your buddy use to build his 545?

Tim Meyer already sells a 4.25 stroker crank for these engines....so yes, a 4.25" crank will fit. Jack Roush built a 400 over 20yrs ago that had a billet 4.5" stroker crank. The 335 Series engines have a generous crank case that can accept a fairly big stroke....not anything like a SBC that requires lots of grinding.

i just found all that info, lol. Thanks for all your input,im enjoying all and every response. I raced using Big block chevy's for 28yrs and now that ive changed to fords im in a learning curve of what all fits where. Ive got the block,crank,4V heads so far, i wanted the Kasse heads but the wife seen the cost and that didnt go over to well. LOL I think im gonna just use all factory parts (exp crank, rods and pistons) and see what we can get on the dyno. I know this has been done A LOT of times but i havent. I will be adding NOS to this engine, i helped design the cam in my racing engines and i will in this one also. THANKS Guy's.
Another great cam company is Bullet Cams in Olive Branch, MS. If you follow Engine Masters Challenge then you will have heard of them. They are fairly popular with engine builders across the Deep South. I run a custom grind from them and the cost is not much more than an off-shelf generic cam.
this project got got shelved for a long time. I picked up a lot of cool parts but we got more bad, real bad news. Our 6 yr old niece has gotten Neuroblastoma cancer and were heading for Maine this Sat. for a week, all family members than can afford it will be helping with medical bills along with your normal bills so that will have to come first, i will still finish up my 77 F250 but the engine and hot rod project is being put on hold. PLEASE keep our little niece in your thoughts and prayers. THANK TO ALL!!!!!!!!
Bud - I will keep all of you in my prayers, and I pray several times a day. That is such bad news. She reminds me so much of my granddaughter. Such a beautiful girl.
THANK's Gary, in May we lost the man that i looked to as my Dad, he was a great guy and i miss him every day, we have lost a lot of people here in my home town in the last couple yrs, young and old. But when its a child its so much harder to deal with, my wife is a mess right now, she lost an 8mon old niece when we started dating 9yrs ago, very sad. THANKS again to all.
My prayers are with you, your niece and her parents.
There are more important things in life then engines and cars.
We all need to take time and remember what is really important.
