Radio Interchangeability

Got sidetracked with some other projects, but I'm hot on the trail of finishing this radio...
So I put in the new radio that I bought. It fit into the dash fine and I have it all wired up. I noticed that the **** stems were shorter but it didn't appear to cause an issue...until I went to put the black dash bezel back on. Now the bezel won't fit over the radio, basically the radio face needs to sit further back in the dash but it can't because of the shorter **** stems.
Anyone know if I'd be able to swap the stems from the old radio to the new radio? It doesn't exactly look like an easy job, but if I can't its going to require major work to the bezel or possibly fabricating my own which I'm not the best at.
