Is all DEF the same?

Or are there brands we should avoid?

My take on DEF is that it is like motor oil, anti freeze, grease and such. If it meets the proper label requirements as to factory spec. It's good to go. I was in Walmart a few weeks back and was going to pick up some Blue DEF, but now Walmart as their own private label DEF. Labels match and said approved for Ford so I saved a few dollars a jug. So far nothing has blown up or idiot lights have come on.

I hope so. I have a jug from the dealer and a jug from the parts store. And one jug won't fill it up.

DEF is 33% Urea and 66% purified water.
So the only variable is how purified the water is

So it should be close to being the same stuff regardless of brand

The biggest difference will be age, storage and any possible contamination

Home Depot $11+

Def price in Hawaii normally 10-20% higher but Home Depot has good price for Peak DEF, which BTW is one of John Force major sponsors, and like a pro NHRA driver, he never fails to say, "Peak DEF" during an interview.

Biggest thing will be freshness... Buy the freshest you can - don't let it sit in the sun or get too hot.

Don't think that applies to the OP's question! Some people are environmentally conscious.
