Dan, many have done it but most of the conversions have been auto to manual. Do a search, there are a lot of threads on the subject. Welcome to the forum.
I suppose it's just the opposite of what we did...
The auto has a little more hardware that goes along with it.
This list is coming from memory so it might not be complete but you'll need:
Trans
Wiring harness
Pedal assembly?
Shifter
Shift cable
Crank spacer
Trans cooler
Floor pan
And depending on years
Cross member
Aluminum spacer at motor
Do the factory manual radiators have the provision for the trans cooler?

If you want to consider replacing the truck, it should be much easier to find an automatic than a manual, anyway. And there's probably somebody out there that wants to buy a manual truck just like yours.

Maybe. I have no real experience on the matter but I suspect manuals are more popular in the rest of the world...
I don't know if he's still putting transmission swap kits together or not. Also, I gather that he is quite a busy fellow these days. I picked up my parts in person. I can't even fathom how much your shipping would cost.
And I understand perfectly about not wanting to part with your truck. People tell me that I ought to just buy a new truck all of the time. I tell them, "Not a chance!"
I recommend that you find a donor truck. If I had a donor truck when I did my swap, it would have been twice as easy. It gives you the opportunity to see how everything should be put together. If there's anything that I can do to help you in this endeavor, let me know. I wish you the best of luck in this endeavor.

THIS ^^
I'm not sure what the junkyards are like where you are but if it's an option it would be hugely helpful. There are some well documented swaps with pictures on this website but it's still not the same as seeing where the parts go as they come off a donor vehicle.
The IDM and ECM will have to be changed. What I have noticed is that manuals will hold the fuel up briefly when letting out of the pedal to shift. The automatics do not do this.
Best bet is to buy a truck out of the junk yard so you have everything you need. Harness's are going to be different as well.
I went the other way so I was able to keep my ECM and IDM. All I had to do was trick the truck into thinking it was always in neutral. Unfortunately you cant just trick the computer.
I dont know the extensive dictation between them, but the IDM's are not all the same, and can not not be used interchangeably. The price tag on a new in is about 800 give or take.
I do sympathize with you though; I bought a 2x4 auto and refuse to part with it, so I converted it over manual, and am still working on the 4x4 conversion though.

I don't see the IDM being an issue here. They are all interchangeable all the way to 2003. The only difference is the voltage. It shouldn't matter auto or manual.
