Battery relocation ideas

i installed a 4.6L DOHC in my 1951 F1. There is no room for the stock located battery. I have room behind the driver side of the bench seat (stock gas tank removed) so I can use an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery to eliminate any acid leak/venting into the cab.

I also saw that someone on here located a battery to the fender well on a sliding tray.

Any other suggestions?

I like the battery in the cab but I need 3 12 foot runs of heavy gauge cable. Alternator to battery, battery to starter and negative battery terminal to engine block (plus block to firewall and block to frame which is only a foot each or so)

So obviously, the lengthy cables is a deterrent for the battery in the cab due to cost. I might just pony up and go that route unless there are other options

I located my battery on the frame just behind the cab o the passenger side so I can't be much help for in cab locations but I can help with wiring. You don't need to run a wire from the alternator all the way to the battery. Go from the alternator to the battery lug on the starter 8ga should be fine for this. You can also use 8ga between the block and frame and block and cab. For the starter power you can use 2ga and the same for the negative ground, hook it to one of the bell housing mounting bolts near the starter. This will greatly reduce the amount of the larger gauge expensive wire.

I have the same battery box as firstrider, and I mounted close to stock location. Except I put a piano hinge on it, so I could slide the battery in from the bottom of the truck. I welded up the battery access panel on the cab floor

Mine is going in a battery box in the trunk, just bought the wire to do the install.
The only full length wire I run is a #2 positive from the battery to the starter. Shorter negative #2 from the battery to the frame, shorter negative #2 from the frame to the engine block. Then #10 negative from the frame to the cab and frame to the bed. #4 from the alternator to the starter, and I also need a #4 from the starter to a 12v distribution block.

On my 49 I mounted mine under the bed floor at the front passenger side of the bed. The battery basically sits on the upper flange of the running board (51/52 trucks don't have this flange). I'm also running a bed floor from a 2005 GMC truck which sits approx. 1 1/2" higher than the stock bed floor which helps a bit. I cut an access door into the bed floor to get to the battery.

Since you don't have the goofy 48-50 running boards there is plenty of room along the frame to mount a battery in a drop down battery box.
