Ok guy's fianlly got a "real question"! I decided to install my new(to me) wiper switch today. I installed all wires and put the **** on(all this under the dash with me holding the entire switch assemeblly) and turned the wipers on and they work. So I pulled the **** off and stuck it in the dash, put the bezel, little threaded nut with the special tool and the **** on. Now when I goto turn the switch on the entire switch(not just the ****) turns! Is there something that holds the swtich besides the bezel and threaded nut? -4speed
Is the switch stiff to turn? I had this problem no matter how tight I tightened it always worked loose and started to egg out the hole in the dash. I then bought a new switch and it fixed all of the problems. Even thou the electric part of switch worked fine. The switch should work nice and freely. You do have the peace that says wiper on it? Their might be a star warsher behind it also between the switch and dash.
Umm.. the switch is pretty tight. I do have the bezel and the little threaded piece that threads into the wiperswitch. I'm replacing a generic switch so there wasn't any washer behind it. I might just have to buy a new switch. Thanks for the help 57, -4speed
Hi 4speed,
Isn't there supposed to be a slot at the bottom of the hole in the dash, and a tab on the switch?
To be honest, I can't remember (senior moment).
I have a picture in my glovebox, but the '59 and my other '79 are across the street right now at my sister's. If I sneak over there now, the dog will go berzerk!
the hole in my dash isnt round, there is a flat side and the switch has a flat side so the switch cant spin......i am still tring to get my bezel on......i have the coordination of a dead fish and just cant seem to get it....if at first i dont succed ill pay some one the next time...just kidding

It doesn't sound like you need a new switch if it worked when you wired it all up. Tighten it down, ya sissy-Mary lala.... Or would you like "Butch" to come do it for ya???
