There's probably information somewhere, but i have a few answers that ive been searching for! First off, im planning on turboing a fe 390 that i am currently rebuilding. any recommendations on turbos? Do yall like blowthrough or bypass boosting better? Im pretty sure that i have the NP-435 tranny. will that be able to handle the additional power? what u-joints/ yokes/ driveshaft/ axles should i be using so that im not worried about breaking stuff all the time? Should i get rid of the 5' blocks in the back and go to long shackels/ extra sprung leafs? What traction bars have been working for yall? SORRY FOR ALL THE NOOBISH QUESTIONS ITS MY FIRST TIME BUILDING/RESTORING A TRUCK AND I HAVE CLOSE TO ZERO HELP. THANKS.
There aren't too many turbo'd FE's here that I have seen.. I'm sure someone here is knowledgeable about it and has one tucked away..
The only Turbo I have had experience with is the Garrett on my powerstroke and it has been an excellent 25-30 psi Turbo.
What are you're plans for the truck? Rockclimbing, mudbogging, street?
I have personally never had issues with my blocks but I have never had that much horsepower. I would recommend swapping to a good arched leafspring to get the desired lift.
I agree djeshler, haven't heard of to many 390's with a turbo.. Do your homework as that can get very very expensive.. The suspension on your Highboy is bulletproof so you should be good and the NP 435 is a very strong tranny. Good luck and welcome, I'm new also and the guys on here are great so ask whatever...
