i have a 79 f-150 and i also got a free 79 parts truck with a good interior and i'm having trouble removing the dash pad. I thought I removed everything holding the pad on, but theres alot of resistance still, and I'd hate to ruin a free dashpad, so I was wondering if any of you guys out there could tell me how to remove the dash pad.
I want to say there are 10 nuts to remove underneath and 6 phillips head screws on top at the front of the dash pad. I am not really that certain though. I have been able to get to all of the underside nuts after removing the instrument cluster and the glove box.
I have two complete dashes sitting on the floor in my garage right now. If nobody else can help before tomorrow morning, I will eyeball them and get back with more specifics.
Maxfordfan,
The dash pad itself has studs that stick downward through the dash, there is also one that sticks inward from the front of the dash pad where it dips down to the right of the heater controls. Remove all the nuts and it will come right off. The phillips head screws hold the dash itself together, and have nothing to do with the pad.
You are so very right! That's how they all attach. I've seen a lot of decent pads destroyed by folks not knowing & using brute force instead. Oh Well....! FBp
