hi ive tried decoding this on my own and dont know if its right, so here it goes the code on the engine i got is f1se. f 1990, 1 is 1991, s thunderbird, e engine.
i put this engine in a 1989 f150 and got all the kinks worked out. the distributor gear and firing order, fuel injectors and such, the truck runs great alot better than the jasper engine that was in it.
for future reference and build up ability, i want to make sure what im working with.
ok thanks, its weird because the guy i bought it from swears it was out of a 94 f150,
Actually no that is not weird and here is why. What you have there is the engine casting number, that tells you when the casting mold was made and what product family paid for it, it does not say when the engine or part was actually assembled or what vehicle it was installed in. Ford didn't update the castings every year and towards the end of production they didn't update them at all, and after 1987 all 5.0 motors were essentially the same except for the camshaft so it's entirely possible to find a "91" engine in a '94 truck. Another clue would be the engines firing order, if it uses the HO order then it's a '94+ motor as everything build before that used the non-HO firing order.
