Engine Serial Number Help
I bought a 2000 f250 superduty with a 7.3L powerstroke that is allegedly out of a 1997. Can anyone tell me if it is a '97 and anything else you see in the serial number. The number stamped right above the oil filter is 181739C2.

One possible clue - you could remove the freeze plug from the top of the engine block in the valley and peer inside with a light. On the engines that went into OBS trucks, there is a lobe there on the camshaft that drives the mechanical fuel pump. On engines that went into the SDs, there's no lobe there.

That number looks to me to be the part number from IH, as most parts # from IH end with a C1, C2, ect.
