help with flywheel removal

I have a 53 f100 that I am in the process of replacing the clutch. Hav no issues removing tranny, pressure plate but trying to drop flywheel to be resurfaced and cant get it to drop out of the bell housing. Ive removed the starter but ring gear teeth appear to hang up on iside bottom of bellhousing and wont drop ot. Am I missing something?

Support the engine (flat V8?) by the oil pan, with a jack and a wood block, at the front and rear. Needs to be solidly supported to be yanking on the flywheel bolts!

Yep flat v8, was hoping not to have to do that , but might be my best shot, seems silly that there wouldn't be enough clearance through the bottom opening to drop the flywheel.

Have you tried cocking it rather than dropping it straight down?

The front support may be enough if you have a big wide floor jack at the rear.
