Hi all. I have been searching and looking and reading for days now. My big black bomber is about ready to hit the street, except for one thing. I need a good reliable trouble free e fan controller. I have the windstar dual fan set up cut In and mounted already. I am wanting a controller that is a soft start type with a/c controller as well. I've ran the truck with parallel relays on single 16" fan and it has no problems keeping the 502 beast cool. The smaller a/c fan actually works Damn good as well. I'm just tired of switching on and leaving on the fan. So what's a good reliable trouble free controller. Spal, dcc, mad enterprises, painless? Too many to list and too try.
DCC if you want the best IMO. The Fk model is 100% variable. Flex a lite variable controller is popular too but it's not totally variable. I think it comes on at 60% You might want to email him first to see how long it will take.
I really like my controller from DCC. It runs all 3 of my fans perfect.
I ordered the optional indicator light and the dial to make fine adjustments to go with it.
Do not get in a hurry to receive your controller if you order one. He is a one man show and custom builds everything. He is so busy he doesn't even have time to answer very many e-mails. You WILL get it, don't get nervous. Usually takes about 6 weeks.
I've been using the Flex A Lite VSC controller, with dual 13.5" fans and my factory alternator, for roughly 10 years now. It ramps the fans up slowly to 60% speed and I have it wired to work with my A/C.
I ordered the FK-45 for my truck from DCC. The only issue I have is I made the order july 2nd and Im still waiting to get it. If your patient go with DCC, if not get something else but later on you still may end up going with a dcc controller. Many people say they are worth the wait and knowing your getting a quality product is hard to pass up.
Eaker that's an awsome and clean looking set up you have there..
Are you running a/c on that as well?
Yes. It works very well with a/c. It comes on @ 50% when the compressor kicks on and will run faster if the radiator temp rises above your preset value. I hooked mine to the pressure switch, on the side that is hot when you turn the a/c on instead of the compressor. That way it runs solid when you turn on the a/c instead of cycling with the compressor. Normally your compressor shouldn't be cycling very much so it shouldn't really matter. I will need to hook it up on the other side of the switch come winter (defrost mode).
